What to Wear for a Pre Wedding or Engagement Session

Hi friend! If you landed on this page is because you are about to get married and want to have a pre wedding or engagement session prior to your big day. If that’s the case: CONGRATULATIONS! First, because you are getting married and second, because you are planning something special in advance too!

Pre wedding or engagement sessions are wonderful and I highly recommend them for many reasons. The most important: to get more comfortable in front of the camera. Chances are that this is your first photo shoot and you have never done it before. You don’t want to improvise on your wedding day and feel awkward whilst posing. No, you want to be relaxed and natural when you are getting your photos taken. You want to look amazing on your wedding photos, so why not practice beforehand?

Another great reason for a pre wedding session is to have photos that you can share with your friends and family before the wedding. Maybe a big announcement on social media too? Or perhaps use this photos for wedding invites. Whichever reason it might be, having these taken will always be worth it.

Lastly, there is a high chance that your photographer during the pre wedding session is the same photographer during your wedding. This is a great opportunity to see how they work and how they will be directing you during your wedding. Start building that chemistry so you work the magic during the Big Day.

Enough with the chit-chat. You want to know what to wear during your pre wedding session, right? Did I hear a “heck yeah”? Well, you arrived at the right place. I am going to share the best tips on how to choose your outfits for your engagement session and make the best of it.

I hope that you enjoy this post.

1. Coordinate Your Outfits

While you don’t need to match each other exactly, coordinating your outfits will create a harmonious and visually pleasing look. Choose a color palette or a theme that complements both of you and suits the location and season of the photo session. Consider colors that flatter your skin tones and avoid patterns that are too busy, as they can be distracting.

2. Reflect Your Personal Style

Your engagement photos should showcase your unique personalities and relationship. Dress in outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel comfortable and confident. Whether you prefer a casual, romantic, or formal look, let your clothing choices align with your individual tastes.

3. Choose Classic and Timeless Pieces

Engagement photos are meant to be cherished for a lifetime, so it’s best to opt for timeless and classic clothing pieces that won’t look dated in the years to come. Clean lines, neutral colors, and simple silhouettes are great choices. Avoid trends that might quickly go out of style and overshadow the true focus of the photos: your love for each other.

4. Consider the Location

Take into account the location of your photo session when selecting your outfits. If you’re having a beach or outdoor shoot, lighter, breezy outfits in pastel or earthy tones can work beautifully. For an urban setting, sophisticated and stylish attire can create a polished look. Let the surroundings guide your choices and create a cohesive visual story.

5. Pay Attention to Details

Don’t forget to pay attention to the smaller details that can make a big difference in your engagement photos. Accessories such as statement jewelry, scarves, or hats can add a touch of personality and visual interest to your outfits. Just be careful not to go overboard, as simplicity often enhances the focus on your connection as a couple.

6. Consider Multiple Outfits

If your engagement photo session allows for it, consider bringing multiple outfits to give your photos a variety of looks. This can add depth and versatility to your final collection. Start with a more formal outfit and then switch to a more relaxed, casual option. Just remember to coordinate the different outfits to maintain a cohesive aesthetic.

My Packages 1 and 2 include Multiple Outfit changes so you can get more out of one shoot. Make sure to check them out when you send your inquiry.

7. Don't Forget About Comfort

Above all, remember to prioritize comfort. If you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, it will show in your photos. Ensure that your outfits fit well, allowing you to move freely and naturally. When you feel good in your clothes, your confidence will shine through, resulting in more relaxed and genuine photos.

Choosing the perfect outfits for your engagement photo session is an exciting part of the wedding journey. By coordinating your outfits, reflecting your personal style, and considering the location, you can create a visually stunning and timeless collection of photos that capture the love and joy you share as a couple. Remember to prioritize comfort and most importantly, let your love and connection be the focal point of the images. So, dress your best, be yourselves, and enjoy this special time together as you embark on your lifelong adventure.
